What it is

Tax Preparation, plainly.

Tax preparation is a licensed profession in every US state. Only CPAs (Certified Public Accountants) and EAs (Enrolled Agents, federally licensed by the IRS) can professionally prepare and sign tax returns. File.Business is not a tax preparation firm and we do not prepare returns. What we do is curate a network of vetted partners who do.

Most tax prep matches are bad because they ignore specialty. A general CPA filing a real estate professional\u2019s return misses depreciation strategies. A general CPA filing an e-commerce return misses sales tax implications and inventory rules. Our match considers industry (real estate, SaaS, e-commerce, restaurant, professional services, healthcare), entity type, state, and prior-year complexity.

Beyond the match, your books being clean (because File.Business runs them) saves the CPA work and saves you money. Most partner CPAs charge by complexity, and a clean QBO-style export from our books shaves 30 to 50 percent off the typical engagement.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

What does business tax preparation involve?
It means preparing and filing your business's federal and state income tax returns, the right form for your entity, an 1120 for a C-corp, 1120-S for an S-corp, 1065 for a partnership, or Schedule C for a sole proprietor, along with the schedules and owner K-1s that go with them. We keep your entity organized so filing is clean.
Which tax return does my business file?
It depends on your structure: a C-corp files 1120, an S-corp files 1120-S, a multi-member LLC or partnership files 1065 with K-1s to owners, and a single-member LLC or sole proprietor reports on Schedule C with the personal return. We flag which return your tax classification requires so nothing is missed.
When are business tax returns due?
Partnership and S-corp returns are generally due March 15, and C-corp and individual returns April 15, with extensions available, though an extension moves the filing date, not the payment date. We track your deadlines so a return or extension is never filed late by accident.
Do I still need to file if the business had no income?
Usually yes: most entities must file a return even with no income or activity, and a partnership or corporation that skips filing can face penalties, so a dormant business is not automatically off the hook. We flag your filing obligations so an inactive entity does not quietly rack up penalties.
How does my entity type affect my taxes?
It drives everything, which return you file, whether income passes through to your personal return, and whether you owe self-employment tax, so your structure and any S-corp election shape your total tax. We keep your entity and classification organized so your filings match how you are actually taxed.
What records do I need for tax preparation?
Income records, expense receipts, bank and card statements, payroll records, prior returns, and your formation and EIN documents, kept organized through the year rather than assembled in a panic at filing time. We keep your entity records organized so tax preparation starts from a clean foundation.
Can I deduct business expenses?
Yes: ordinary and necessary business expenses, home office, equipment, mileage, and more, reduce your taxable income when properly documented, and missing legitimate deductions means overpaying. We flag the categories so your return captures what you are entitled to deduct.
Do you replace my CPA or accountant?
We keep your entity, EIN, and records organized so your CPA or tax preparer works from clean information, and we coordinate rather than replace the return preparation itself for complex situations. We flag where a CPA's input matters so your filings are both accurate and well-supported.
Can File.Business help with my business taxes?
We keep your entity, EIN, and records organized, flag your filing obligations, deadlines, and available deductions, and coordinate with your tax professional, so your business returns are filed correctly and on time rather than becoming a yearly scramble.

How it works

How we deliver, end-to-end.

Four-step path from request to confirmation. State and IRS turnaround varies; our steps run in parallel where possible to compress the timeline.

1

Intake + scope

You tell us what you need through a short intake form (or a call for complex matters). We confirm scope, surface any gating issues (deadlines, missing documents, entity status), and quote any state fees that pass through at cost.

2

Prepare + verify

Our specialists draft the filing, verify entity details against state databases, run internal QA, and route any items needing your sign-off. You see drafts before anything gets submitted.

3

File with the authority

We submit directly to the state Secretary of State, FinCEN, IRS, USPTO, or whichever authority your filing requires. We pay state fees at cost and track the submission identifier in your account.

4

Confirmation + vault

Stamped certificate, IRS notice, or filing receipt arrives in your SOC 2 encrypted document vault the moment we receive it. Next filing deadline auto-added to your compliance calendar where applicable.
