HR and payroll, sorted, from hire to retirement.
The moment you hire your first employee, a new stack of obligations arrives: payroll taxes, withholding, new-hire reporting, benefits, and rules that differ in every state. People and Payroll runs the whole thing, paying your team accurately, handling the tax filings behind each paycheck, and keeping you compliant in every state you employ.
Everything that comes with having employees.
People and Payroll is the system for running a team compliantly. It pays your employees and contractors on schedule, calculates and withholds the right taxes, and files the payroll returns those withholdings feed, from the quarterly Form 941 to state filings and the year-end W-2s. It also handles the human-resources side that trips up new employers: new-hire reporting, benefits, and the rules that change the moment you hire someone in a different state. As you grow, it extends to compensation benchmarking, equity, and the compliance paperwork a real team needs.
Pay the team, and the paperwork behind it.
Payroll is not just moving money; it is the filings, withholdings, and reports that follow every paycheck. The service handles all of it as one flow.
- Payroll, run for you. Employees and contractors paid on schedule, with pay stubs and direct deposit.
- Payroll taxes handled. Withholding calculated, deposited, and filed, including the quarterly 941, 940, and year-end W-2s.
- Multi-state compliance. Registration and filings in every state you employ, so a remote hire does not create a gap.
- HR and benefits. New-hire reporting, benefits, and the day-one compliance documents a real team needs.
For the moment you stop working alone.
The day you hire is the day payroll compliance begins. This is for employers who want the team paid and the filings handled without becoming a payroll department.
- Businesses hiring their first W-2 employee
- Companies with a team spread across several states
- Founders who want payroll taxes filed, not just calculated
- Growing teams that will need benefits, comp benchmarking, and equity
Not sure if a worker is an employee or a contractor? It changes everything about how they are paid and taxed. We help you classify correctly before the first payroll runs.

Payroll is where compliance gets real.
Missing a payroll tax deposit or misclassifying a worker carries some of the steepest penalties a small business faces. Running payroll and the filings behind it as one flow, in the same platform that holds your entity, is what keeps those risks off the table.
The taxes and returns behind each paycheck are handled with the payroll run, not left to you.
Remote hires do not create hidden gaps, because we register and file in each state.
Benefits, comp benchmarking, and equity extend the same system as you scale.

Does it file my payroll taxes, or just calculate them?
It files them. Withholding is calculated and deposited, and the returns behind it, your quarterly Form 941, annual 940, and year-end W-2s, are filed on time. Calculating without filing is where most payroll trouble starts.
Can it handle employees in different states?
Yes. Hiring in a new state creates new registrations and filings, and we handle them, so a remote hire does not quietly put you out of compliance somewhere.
What if I only pay contractors?
Then you may not need full payroll, just a 1099-NEC for each contractor at year-end, which we can handle. If a worker is really an employee, though, they belong on payroll, and we help you classify correctly.
Do you handle benefits and equity too?
Yes, as you grow. Benefits, new-hire compliance, compensation benchmarking, equity grant tracking, and the 409A valuation you need to grant options are all part of the service, with a PEO option where it fits. Equity ties into your cap table.
Who actually runs it?
