E-signatures have been legally equivalent to wet signatures in the US since the federal Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (ESIGN Act) of 2000, and state-level UETA (Uniform Electronic Transactions Act) in 49 states (New York has its own law with the same effect).
